Trench 1 after 1 year!

As-salamu alaykum! Yesterday we returned on the site in order to see the situation of the trenches and to organize the topographic work of Saturday (we searched for the bench marks that are necessary to open the new squares for the excavation of this campaign). The Trench 1, in the south part of the Tell, has been unfortunately strongly damaged by the rain and now it is completely covered by a crust of salt and sand. Fortunately our wonderful collaborators (Haider, Ngamesh and Amir) will solve any problem in few days of cleaning!

After the visit to the site we went to Nasiriyah Musuem to see our friends there and to take the human and animal bones that will be studied by dr Mary Anne Tafuri, our Anthropologist, and dr Francesca Alhaique, our Archaeo-zoologist.

Today, dr Silvia Santiloni and dr Melania Zingarello will arrive and so the excavation will start tomorrow, inshallah! Welcome to our Banat!

Going to the site.

As-salamu alaykum! Ieri siamo tornati sul sito per vedere lo stato delle trincee e organizzare la situazione delle trincee e per organizzare il lavoro topografico di sabato (abbiamo cercato i picchetti che sono necessari per i nuovi quadrati per lo scavo di questa campagna).  La trincea 1, nella parte sud del Tell, è stata fortemente danneggiata dalla pioggia e ora è completamente coperta da una crosta di sale e terra. Fortunatamente i nostri meravigliosi collaboratori (Haider, Ngamesh, e Amir) risolveranno ogni problema in pochi giorni di pulizia.

Dopo la visita al sito siamo andati al Museo di Nasiriyah per far visita ai nostri amici e prendere le ossa umane e animali che saranno studiate dalla Dott.ssa Mary Anne Tafuri e Dott.ssa Francesca Alhaique.
