Dear all,

after a long absence we’re back on the blog! Few days ago we arrived in Iraq, in a problematic moment for our beloved country…

We decided, thus, to rethink the 2014 excavation program. For now, just me and Franco are in Nasiriyah, in order to open the digging. Our wonderful specialists will join us in October and November after we have ascertained the safety conditions, also according to the information of our Embassy in Baghdad. This year we intended to take with us Sapienza students, whose collaboration in managing the documentation on the previous campaign has been fundamental for us, but it has been not possible. Nevertheless, we are confident that next year we shall carry on students’ training in Abu Tbeirah! Meanwhile, many thanks to Ludovica Bertolini, Desiré Bragalone, Maddalena Diaco, Shirin Khalatbari, Mirabello Mattera, Flavia Pacelli, Michael Renna, Thomas Scarpelli, Valeria Tappeti, Edward Zanetti!

Yesterday we have been on the Tell: due to the huge amount of rains of this fall, the excavation areas are filled by plants and, despite the heat of this summer and of these days, the whole area around Nasiriyah, Ur and Abu Tbeirah is still green! Inshallah, tomorrow we’ll start with cleaning the southern Area in order to continue investigating Building A and the cemetery area over it.

Internet does not work very well and thus we cannot update our blog with continuity, but we will try to make a post every week! However, we’ll try also to update Facebook and Twitter!

dopo una lunga assenza siamo di nuovo sul blog! Pochi giorni fa siamo arrivatiin Iraq, in un momento difficile per il nostro amato paese …

Abbiamo deciso, quindi, di ripensare il programma di scavo 2014. Per ora, solo io e Franco siamo a Nassiriya, per aprire lo scavo. I nostri meravigliosi specialisti si uniranno a noi in ottobre e novembre dopo che avremo accertato le condizioni di sicurezza, anche in base alle informazioni della nostra Ambasciata a Baghdad. Quest’anno avevamo intenzione di portare con noi studenti della Sapienza, la cui collaborazione nella gestione della documentazione relativa alla campagna precedente è stata fondamentale per noi, ma è stato purtroppo impossibile. Tuttavia, siamo fiduciosi che il prossimo anno potremo protarli ad Abu Tbeirah! Nel frattempo, molte grazie a Ludovica Bertolini, Desiré Bragalone, Maddalena Diaco, Shirin Khalatbari, Mirabello Mattera, Flavia Pacelli, Michael Renna, Thomas Scarpelli, Valeria Tappeti, Edward Zanetti!

Ieri siamo stati sul Tell: a causa delle abbondanti piogge di questo autunno, le aree di scavo si sono riempite di piante e, nonostante il caldo di questa estate e di questi giorni, l’intera area intorno a Nassiriya, Ur e Abu Tbeirah è ancora verde! Inshallah, domani inizieremo con la pulizia della zona meridionale, al fine di continuare a indagare Edificio A e l’area cimiteriale al di sopra di esso.

Internet non funziona molto bene e quindi non siamo in grado di aggiornare il blogh con continuità, ma cercheremo di fare un post ogni settimana! Intanto seguiteci su FB e Twitter (@AbuTbeirah)!
